Week of the Arctic 2014

The artists in Barrow, Alaska, as part of the Week of the Arctic

In collaboration with the Institute of the North, the Anchorage Museum was pleased to include a group of artists as part of the Week of the Arctic, who traveled to Nome, Kotezebue and Barrow, Alaska. The artists are part of the Polar Lab artist residency program. They are exploring issues that affect the North and will develop work that is derived from an understanding of the complex issues that face the Arctic and its people. The Week of the Arctic is organized by the Institute of the North.

ARTISTS PARTICIPATING IN THE WEEK OF THE ARCTIC 2014 INCLUDE:

  • Allison Warden, an Iñupiaq visual and performance artist (panel moderator)
  • Magali Daniaux & Cédric Pigot, experimental and performance artists from Paris, France who are interested in the economic, political and geo-strategic issues around climate change, urban development and food management
  • Mary Mattingly, a visual artist from New York, who explores the themes of home, travel, cartography, relationships, the environment, and machines
